AGC past presidents & members rally for change on Seattle council
Fourteen of AGC's past presidents and notable members have signed a fundraising letter that's gone out to Seattle District AGC members, encouraging donations for CASE -- Civic Alliance for a Competitive Economy -- to bring about common-sense and practical solutions to critical issues facing our city. They're not alone, either: Amazon has just bolstered CASE's warchest, donating over $1M to CASE this week. On November 5, voters have a chance to stem Seattle's rising tide of urban decay and anti-business sentiment. There are seven city council seats up for election, and fortunately -- very fortunately -- all seven CASE- and AGC's BUILD PAC-endorsed candidates are on the November ballot. As the letter stated, "each of these leaders are more common-sensical and practical than their status-quo opponents. Simply put, they offer the possibility for better leadership in our city." For more information, or to contribute to this worthwhile effort, email Sonja Forster.
AGC Board votes to oppose Initiative 976
AGC’s Board of Trustees voted Monday to oppose Initiative 976, which would eliminate billions in transportation spending. AGC’s’ Government Affairs Committee had previously met to discuss the initiative and to make an Oppose recommendation to the Board. Known as the $30 Car Tabs initiative, I-976 would cut $20 billion in funding from Sound Transit. Perhaps less well known is the fact that I-976 would also cut almost $4 billion in WSDOT funding over ten years, and it would cut $60 million annually from Transportation Benefit Districts which scores of cities around the state use to fund local road maintenance.
